DUI Risk Reduction Program

The DUI program is a 20-hour course held in 2½ day scheduled sessions. An assessment must be completed prior to enrolling in the DUI 20-hour course.

ALL FIRST DUI OFFENDER CLIENTS - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

First time DUI offenders are required, as a condition of probation, to get a clinical evaluation, and if indicated by the evaluation, complete a substance abuse treatment program. These requirements, effective July 1, 2008 are in addition to all other existing requirements for probation. Under this new law, the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is responsible for approving clinical evaluators and treatment providers and establishing regulations for implementing these requirements


DUI Risk Reduction Program

  • You must complete the DUI Risk Reduction program (DUI School of 20 hours of classroom instruction) before getting the clinical evaluation.

The DUI School Risk Reduction Program is often mandated by the court, according to the laws of the State of Georgia.  

  • Possession of Drugs
  • Driving Under the Influence - DUI
  • Reckless Driving - Reduced from a DUI
  • Driving Under the Influence of Drugs
  • Minor in Possession of Alcohol - MIP or Underage Drinking

Driver Improvement Defensive Driving

The 6-hour defensive driving course certified by the Department of Driver Services (DDS) is designed to teach drivers about safe driving attitudes and behaviors.  Taking this course can fulfill a mandated court order, reinstate a revoked or suspended license, reduce points, satisfy a job requirement, reduce insurance premiums or improve driving skills. Students will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course that is recognized by DDS.


6-hour Defensive Driving Course = $95.00  (Fee set by the State.)


Defensive Driving Course Benefits

  • Points Reduction - state allows up to 7 points be removed every 5 years from your driving record.
  • Suspension/Revoked - meets requirements for clearance of license suspensions.
  • Fine Reductions - court may reduce fines up to 20% and 0 ticket count - entirely up to the Judge. 
  • Insurance Discounts - possible insurance premium discounts with a clean driving record.*
  • Job Security - some companies require employees take a defensive driving course.
  • Personal Education - update and reiteration of traffic laws.
